Station changes, ferry handovers and border crossings — planned as part of the trip.

About Relaymatjumbex

The thinking behind our routes

Why we exist

We start in the middle

Relaymatjumbex began with a simple observation: travel guides cover destinations thoroughly and the spaces between them barely at all. Yet on a multi-country trip, the station change in Johor Bahru or the ferry pier at Padang Bai shapes your days as much as any sight. We write about those connections so that independent travellers can plan journeys that flow.

Our name is a nod to relays: one leg handing over cleanly to the next. That is the standard we aim for in every guide.

Method

How we research

We draw on operator information, official government travel sources, first-hand travel and reports from readers. Where details change often, such as timetables, fares and entry rules, we describe patterns and trade-offs rather than presenting figures as fixed. We review guides regularly and update them when routes open, close or change.

Independence

No operator writes our advice

We are not affiliated with any rail company, ferry operator, airline or government agency, and we do not accept payment for recommendations. If that ever changes on a specific page, we will say so clearly. Our aim is advice you can trust when you are standing at a border with a decision to make.
